Field Notes from Hawk Meadow:
The Harsh Beauty of Winter
We have all been experiencing some recent harsh winter weather here in Whatcom County. Out here on the farm I've had frozen pipes, trees across the driveway, power outages, and burning through all my propane because my son left his skylight open upstairs for a week. We had 18" of snow out here at one point, and it always melts off slower here than it does in town close to the water. I've certainly been thankful for the four-wheel drive on the truck.
Along with the trouble the weather can cause comes the beauty of the winter landscape as snow lays over the meadow. I thought I would share a few pictures of the farm in winter. Note the view of the field taken from the same vantage point as a summer shot you can find elsewhere on this site. Happy holidays to everyone, and I hope you make it through our unpredictable winter weather safe and warm.
